MEET SHLOMO FARBER
Exploring a lifelong passion for music
Music has mesmerized me from a very young age. Studying Piano, Writing for orchestral and choral ensembles, singing in choirs, and playing in jazz bands, I grew to become a versatile and creative musician. Following graduation from the Jerusalem Academy of Music (2012), I have been teaching students from age 5 to adults.
Located in southeast Portland, I offer music lessons to students in the area.
ABOUT ME
Following Your Unique Path
We're all different. Every one of us has different desires, learning styles, strengths and weaknesses. It is my calling to find out what makes each of my students thrive and guide them patiently and passionately along their own path. At the same time, It is of great importance to me to emphasize the basics of the music language and work constantly to develop strong foundations.
LESSONS
TECHNIQUE & ARTISTRY
Developing good piano technique is an ongoing journey for every piano player. It is somewhat common for piano students to develop unhealthy movement at the piano that can cause pain or inadequate/unenjoyable playing . My approach to teaching technique is holistic and mindful. I bring a composer's perspective into the art of interpretation and offer insights that are helpful in cultivating an ear for musical nuance and self expression.
MUSIC THEORY
Carl Orff, a great music educator, once said:
"Since the beginning of time, children have not liked to study. They would much rather play, and if you have their interests at heart, you will let them learn while they play."
Having this very idea in my mind, I've made it my job to collect and create musical games and toys that make theory time something to look forward to.
CREATIVE SKILLS
I encourage creativity.
My students enjoy the variety of improvisation, arranging, composing, transcribing, and producing music digitally.
